Suicide in the Media

Suicide in the Media

Posted on behalf of Bournemouth University's Public Engagement Team

Dorset has the highest suicide rate on the south coast, and for every person who dies by suicide, between six and 135 people are significantly affected by their death. At this event, we will talk about suicide in an open, safe and supportive environment in order to de-stigmatise the act, allowing people to learn more about how and why it occurs, and what role is played by the media.

The event will discuss the role of the media in suicide prevention, and the impact it can have on those suffering from bereavement and working in the field of suicide prevention. We’ll also cover the impact of suicide on social policy and economics, the NHS, Parliamentary Inquiries and Government Policy, and how this affects us locally in Dorset.

This event is run by Dr. Ann Luce as part of the ESRC Festival of Social Science 2019, organised by Bournemouth University.

This event is FREE to attend but registration is required. This event may be attended only by those 18 years of age or older due to the sensitive subject matter.

There is no parking at the Executive Business Centre, however general parking is available nearby on Cotlands Road
